Re: Get Moving!

My favorite thing to do before all my other bed exercises this is to have my knees bent,  feet flat on the bed, drop my knees to the right, the torso gently follows, and then the arms and then the neck/ head. Then the knees go back into the other direction with everything else following. It's a nice full body rolling twist. I do it about 10 times before I do anything else just to get the synovial fluid moving throughout my body. I even do it before I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
What a Face
Plus it's easy. I like easy.

I try to run/walk 5km twice a week, but yesterday i went for 2 bike rides, about 7k in the morning and 9k in the evening. Not sure which I like more at this point. Biking for exercise is new to me, but I want to alternate between the two. The fact that I live on top of a very steep hill sucks for the end of the workouts though.

I love indoor cycling! It's a great workout, plus low impact which my body (knees especially) really appreciates. I do several different types of cycle training a week to keep my body guessing what I'm throwing at it.
I really try to get at least 10,000 steps a day in also regardless of daily workouts.

Rooster, do you have pedometer? If so what kind? Or do I remember you had...one of those wrist monitors. What are they called?

I'd like a good old plain pedometer that last longer than a few weeks.

I have been really really inert over the past honestly, year.  This weekend, my daughter was at a swim meet in Atlanta at GA Tech, I flew in, and no rental!  Forced walking on the lovely Georgia Tech campus all weekend!

Got me back into the mood....yay!cheers

I'm in the market for a recumbent bike. Have issues forcing me to be nice to several joints. I'm a one time marathoner, yeah, that was enough for me.  But now, no running, no long walks allowed. Been searching reviews and articles.  There is a lot of choices and price ranges.  The search goes on.

I have a Fitbit Charge 2 that I wear daily to help keep track of activities, and I also have a strap on type heart rate monitor that I use when working out and hiking. The heart rate monitor I use links up with my smart device via bluetooth.

Link to monitor:

I got mine on Amazon for cheaper.
It's a great hr monitor for the $$.

Right after Christmas, I started walking. Then the rains started. I must get back into it. I bought an Omron pedometer at Walgreens.

Every morning, for years now, I walk with my 'Pack', a group of people and dogs. When I was six days out of hip replacement surgery I had worked up to a mile with a rolling walker. Today I am 10 days out and can do a half mile with a cane in the afternoon as well as the morning walker mile.
What a Face
I sure wish the weather was nicer here but we can't let it stop us!

Way to go CC! Great to hear your recovery is going so well. It's amazing how much better and easier recovery can go when you take and have taken good care of yourself!

Hubby does a recumbent exercise bike that faces my treadmill in the sun room. We workout together when the weather is too bad to play outside. Today our workout will be moving wood chips for me and chopping wood for him.

Hiking in the hills is my second favorite recreational exercise.

Living with a real redhead is my first.

I'm officially hooked on cycling. Much easier on the knees than running.  I did 25km total last weekend and tonight I did 10. I have so many roads leading away from my house, I just need to choose how far I want to go and map it out. I work for Suunto (watch company) and have all sorts of gadgets and gizmos; gps watch, HR belt, bike sensor, it just makes it that much better. I like tracking my improvements.

I jogged 2 solid miles yesterday for the 1st time in probably 30 years! I could probably walk faster but I did it lol. I had no issues breathing at all even at our high altitude. My biggest problem is my old joints Shocked I'm signed up for my first 5k on July 4th and really looking forward to it.

Wow!  Way to go!  Today I am taking a vacation day to get the 3x7 happening, and the pool shaped up, flowers might go in too depending on time constraints...gotta pace myself, old nurse with an achy back!

Lucky you, Rooster!!!

Dr. said that my new hip would last longer if I don't run/jog anymore.  Sad   I'm thinking the running could have been part of what wore it down in the first place. But I ran with a bad hip up until last year. Took me the whole year to learn to stop running.

I love running.

I've never been any good at running and especially for the last 10+ years. I have flat feet and I feel like a jostling bag of bones when I try to run. Seems like all of my joints are rattling and banging together.  No fun at all for me.  So walking is the best I can do.

7 weeks out from hip surgery. I walked a mile without the cane this morning and then got the front lawn mowed which is the hilly side of the house. Realized I need a new blade so the back of the house will have to wait until next week. Man, it feels good to be back in the saddle again!
