On the disabled list for now

Post  Banned Member on 4/17/2017, 12:58 am

Too much raking and turning of compost piles, and this old geezer is on the shelf for awhile.  My shoulder spasms returned with a vengeance, and there will be no gardening for me for at least a week.

It is soooooo aggravating.

TNG, do you grow comfrey on your property? If I were in your shoes I would strap one of those big ol leaves to my shoulder pronto. Comfrey is what I'm using on my muscle aches. Work great right after I got out of Hospital.

I think there are a few of us who can understand what you are going through. Do what it takes to get better and try to prevent it from happening again. I have been in the background for awhile, just like CC, hang in there, it is going to get better. Keep us informed, prayers and wishes headed your way.

I hope it gets better fast!
I can certainly relate to the frustration of physically having to step back from the garden at this time of year.

TNG I hope you get well soon.

I'm just coming off the disabled list and at the right time I might add. I've been suffering for months with very painful heel spurs but recently the pain has subsided. I just hope that getting back into gardening does not aggravate the foot problem again. I know for certain that the repetitive strain injury in my right arm will be back as soon as I start any heavy lifting or even turning the compost.

Sad If it weren't for all the rain forcing me to take it easy, I would be right there with you. Rolling Eyes I hope you all heal fast and I will plant my comfrey today -- just in case. geek

Thank yous to all my friends here.  CC, I wish I had comfrey, but unfortunately no on that one in our herb garden.  We had some comfrey healing salve, but it seems to have left home.

I had the problem back in Autumn and early Winter, and it took 6 weeks to go away.  Thinking the problem was gone, I guess I should have taken it much easier.  Making compost is sort of my way to forget all the other things going on that I would like to forget, and I guess I tried to forget too much.

After trying many natural healing things all with minimal relief, it took a cortisone shot and prednisone dose pack along with 800 mg ibuprofen and a muscle relaxant that could knock out a horse to get enough relief to actually lay down and sleep.

This pain is like having a 24/7 Charlie Horse in your shoulder.  It is only pain-free when an ice pack is left on it while taking the ibuprofen.

I am upping my potassium levels to the upper limit of the allowable zone, because it is probable that my sodium levels in the past two weeks have risen greatly with all the chicken soup, nova, turkey, chicken, and brisket.

Today, I am consuming potatoes, carrots, potatoes, zucchini, and potatoes.  And, for dessert, potatoes.

I now have some comfrey salve.  First application is on with an ice pack chaser.  Sitting on the couch, so now I can add couch potato to all the other spud news.

I've heard magnesium can also help with muscle spasms - spinach/chard, beans (navy, soy, black, pinto, kidney, lima), some seeds (pumpkin, sesame, quinoa, sunflower, millet).

My sweetie pie fed me tonight like I was a root crop, stopping just short of making me eat wood ashes.

If I drink any more coconut water, I am going to become a palm tree.  I overheard a rumor that Espoma was going to contact me about purchasing my sweat and selling it as 0-0-10 fertilizer.

As for the Mg, I have to believe that my levels are quite high.  We use Magnesium oil in our homemade deodorant and body lotions.  We take magnesium oil baths on Sundays.  Unless my pores are clogged, I know I am getting a lot of magnesium.

The comfrey salve and ice packs are doing a much better job on the pain this go around.  I am typing virtually pain-free tonight.  I may actually get to sleep before the sun rises.

Thanks for all the good vibes.  This AM, I awoke in such minimal pain that I felt ready to go turn over compost, but that is my addiction, and my sweetie banged me over the head and put some sense in me.  A couple more days off, and then I might go back with minimal gardening, handling one of the raised beds, while letting my utmost do the heavy lifting.

I sort of feel like Johnny Carson's joke about Marlin Perkins of the old Wild Kingdom shows.

"While Jim is upstream wrestling the mighty anaconda, I will be in my plush air conditioned trailer sipping on some mai tais and looking at my Mutual of Omaha policies."
