Greetings From the Maritimes!

Post  SwampTroll on 5/15/2017, 7:24 pm

I've finally set up an account here.

I've been quietly looking and gaining knowledge from the wonderful people here, but I only just created an account.

I thought I'd finally engage in more active learning.

This year I'll have a 4x8 and a 3x3(maybe) up and going in addition to a potato bag and blueberries in a raised 3x4 bed.

Here's hoping things go better this year than they did the first year around.

Welcome SwampTroll from Ottawa. Great to have you with us.  We welcome your input and questions. My brother-in-law and his wife live in New Brunswick. We may visit them this summer. My wife and I lived in Nova Scotia but that was back in the 1970s.

That's awesome. I originally met my wife in Ottawa years ago.  I'm just very glad that I found this forum and decided to finally create an account.

I've selected two varieties at my local Canadian Tire - Reka and Sweetheart.  Here's hoping my local bees love them and do their thing.

You can never have too many blueberries.

Hi SwampTroll. Here's an official welcome from Atlanta, GA!

Know what you mean about the blueberries. That's what we use for our front hedges. Last year we got 6 gallons out of 5 bushes! (Bird netting doubled our production from previous years.)

You poor thing!   Granted you probably have a growing season MUCH longer than the 2 months we have here, but no blueberries?  Wow.  That's harsh.    I figure I'll be pulling in my first harvest around the time you're pulling in your 5th.

OK ... all this discussion on blueberries and I don't have any.  That's not fair.  So while Mrs TD and I were at Canadian Tire this afternoon we bought two blueberry plants which should survive our winter since they are rated Zone 3.  Now we have to decide where to plant them and make sure they have a low PH soil.  Hopefully, I can use peat moss to help lower the PH.
