New in Tennessee

Post  pawsplus on 5/19/2017, 8:46 am

Hi!  I'm just about to embark on this square foot gardening thing.  I have to have 2 trees removed first, so I'm in the information gathering phase. :-) I live in Middle Tennessee--pretty long growing season, so I hope I can plant a few things this summer and get started, even though I'm late starting this year. I hope to learn a lot here! :-)

If your trees aren't diseased, ask to keep the wood chips. They make excellent mulch.

happy hi and  glad you\'re here from Redding, CA.

Mmmm.  Don't they just put them into the truck as they chip them?  I can't think of a place to put them and don't think the guys would agree to put them in an area away from the front of the house.  I don't want them sitting there! I'll ask though.

pawplus,  I had one tree removed and chipped, leaves and all.  I had the crew aim the discharge chute against a fence with a tarp so I could keep them.  They made a great walk on mulch between the beds and in the flower beds.  I think they were just getting started in this photo.  Filled a few garbage cans, plastic bags and totes.  The remainder we just dragged the tarp to behind the fence.

Agree!  Free mulch, and you know where it came from!
