Wildflowers or weeds?

Post  Fiz on 7/1/2017, 9:56 pm

These grow like crazy near my place. There's lots of construction in the area so some grassy areas don't get tended to. Always curious if these are wildflowers, weeds, or both!

The blue is wild chicory (Cichorium intybus)
The white are daisies - I can't see the features needed to ID the species.
And I think the yellow is yellow sweet clover (Melilotus offcinalis)

All three are native to Europe, not North America. They are wildflowers, but not native wildflowers -- but they still host pollinators and other beneficial insects. I grow the first two intentionally in my flower beds. But I'd pull them out of my vegetable beds. Weeds are plants growing where they aren't wanted, so it depends on the eye of the beholder. Personally, I'd rather have the untended flowers than tended grass. flower

Thanks! I've uploaded a bunch of that information into my brain instead of Hollywood trivia, vehicle identification, and clothing/accessory brand knowledge. And I don't 'know' everything - just enough to look things up effectively.

I can relate, I'm the same way about other topics. It drives my wife nuts sometimes. Laughing I just feel like I need to know as much about as many things as possible.
