When to harvest delicata squash

Post  dixie on 8/3/2017, 12:42 pm

My delicata squash have just turned yellow with dark stripes.  For storage purposes, should I pull them now or wait til later in the season?

happy hi Dixie!

Following this as I noticed 4 females on my plants this morning. Best guess would be to pick them when they look like they do in the grocery store. hehe

For storage purposes you want the skin hardened, so later is better. For eating right away it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the info.  Will they be sweet if I eat them now?

Yes, they will be sweet now but will develop more sweetness and flavor as they mature.
