Hello from Gilbert, AZ

I'm in Sunset Zone 13 and I ignore the whole 9B thing because Florida is also 9B and this is nothing like Florida.

I've been container gardening, but am trying my first SFG in a sheep tank (4 x 2). Yes, it's rounded on the ends, but I've divided into squares anyway.  Very Happy In the tank, I have miniature roses, peppers, cabbage, and Brussel sprouts. Looking forward to see how it works!

Liz, Welcome to the Forum from California.   glad you\'re here My zone is 9A, hot and dry in summer and rarely any hard freezes in winter.

Yup. I've gardened in both 9Bs and they are definitely not the same. Rolling Eyes glad you\'re here from Redding, CA.

Looks like I'm Sunset 9.
ZONE 9. Thermal Belts of California's Central Valley
Growing season: late Feb. through Dec. Zone 9 is located in the higher elevations around Zone 8, but its summers are just as hot; its winter lows are slightly higher (temperatures range from 28 degrees to 18 degrees F/-2 degrees to -8 degrees C). Rainfall pattern is the same as in Zone 8.

Not SFG, but still proud of it

Best part of my garden right now is my herb spiral. This is what it looked like in August, newly planted. 



The plants are massive now. The lemongrass, which looks horrible here, went absolutely crazy. The basil - purple and cinnamon- and chives are doing fantastic. I need some recipes for lemongrass!

The other thing I'm proud of is my ocotillo. Not an easy thing for an old lady to plant by herself, but I did it!



Planted that in mid-July, bare root, and a month later it had leaves. My small miracle for the summer season.

Liz, very nice herb bed.  I had to look up ocotillo.  There's always something new to learn on this Forum.  Regarding using lemongrass in cooking, I had to look at YouTube videos.  In this central area of California, it is perennial if protected from hard freeze (low 20's).  I pruned and chopped up the dead leaves in the spring and used them as some of the mulch.  Really good smelling mulch. Very Happy

Lemongrass
