New England Nov 2017

Post  quiltbea on 11/1/2017, 7:34 am

Just wanted to check in and say "Hi" everybody.  Have a great month.

Some of our ladies ready for Halloween.

Some of the kids grabbing their goodies.

We opened our lobby to the kids for Halloween and gave them handsful of candy after practically hijacking them off the street since this was a first for our building. They'll remember us next time. A good time was had by all with a Pizza Party for our folks afterwards. Mmmmm good.

HA!  Fun Nov start off, QB!  That is so funny!  Which one is you?

Things are winding down here on ol' Cape Cod.  The squashes & cukes have been picked, the slugs ate all the collards and are now digging into the kale, and the lettuce is staying small.

However, the cut back chives are re-growing and the carrots seem to be about a lb each so one lasts a week.  Crazy carrot year... the best yet!

Oh, and we had a nasty blow on Monday - lots of trees down.  I asked some tree guys for their chips:
Didn't realize that the truck was so BIG!
affraid
Looks like a good mix though...

OMG!!! I forgot to plant my garlic!!!

CC ... great job with your garden and lovely harvest.

I once asked a tree trimming contractor (who was working in our neighborhood) if I could get some of the wood chips. He said sure but there we be 13 cubic yards dumped in your driveway. I said no thanks.

CapeC.....Nice to see your fall harvest is still happening. I miss it.
As for my picture, since I was the photographer, I'm not in any of the pix I took that nite.

I planted these garlics yesterday!  Yay!

Spread about 30 wheel barrows of wood chips this weekend on a patch of gout weed over by the compost area in hopes of smothering it.  One more patch to go.

I ended up putting a FREE sign on the chip pile yesterday since it doesn't appear that I've even made a dent in it. Shocked  Crazy huge.  My neighbor says it looks like 5 yards, whatever that means.

Not sure if I'll be putting some chips on my perennial gardens or not since the chips were a slug magnet the last time I did that. Sad But it sure was nice not to have to water hardly ever.

Freeze warning in affect tomorrow night from 7PM til 8AM Saturday.
"A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or
highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other
sensitive vegetation."

Yeah, we are a couple days ahead of you, CC.  It’s coming your way.  Too early for these temps but hey, who you gonna complain to?

Getting my real coat out, darn it.....

Took down all the trellis's, watered in the garlic (didn't cover but never have), emptied and brought in the hoses and the bucket brigade, potted up and brought in the parsley but the basil was too far gone already. Picked up season 2 & 3 of Poldark from the library.
What a Face
I'm ready. Bring on the cold!

I am planting my garlic tomorrow, a bit delinquent.  I saw my parsley was still alive, but it is in a pot I cannot bring in...maybe I should try to bring some in and give it a whirl?

Todays harvest - ground cherries, kale, collards, chives, beets, (carrots not shown):

I won't say it's the last harvest of the year because whenever I do, there is always more to come.  Not a bad thing.

Just a tad bit jealous of your Northerners, getting a long winter's rest. I know, I know, the flip side is the Southerners get produce year around.
