Weed Barrier??

Post  milaneyjane on 5/19/2010, 5:07 pm

I read Mel's book all the way through once (borrowed it from a friend) and thought it said you could use cardboard as the weed barrier. Now I am doubting myself, although it is too late to do anything about it. I put my beds over my existing garden and used cardboard as the weed barrier. My beds are 8 and 16 inches tall, an I figure that without the sunshine any weed seeds underneath should be slow to grow. I am not impressed with regular weed fabric so I figured I wouldn't use it. Anyone else just use the cardboard???? Do you regret it? It was pretty late in the spring and any weeds that had grown on the soil I removed first.

Weed Barrier??

Post  Bec on 5/19/2010, 5:27 pm

I know this doesn't really answer your question but this is what I'm doing. My grass is too hard to mess with - can't even get a shovel through it with all the stones under it. So I put down cardboard, am putting weedcloth on top of that, and then my boxes on top of that. I understand that cardboard breaks down in about 3 months and I don't want any growth remaining to start growing again with my good MM. I'm hoping that this will be enough. Time will tell.
