Here's a great article about an inmate who created a SFG.

I loved this article! Thanks for sharing! Now if only we could hook Jamie Oliver up with Mel and get every school involved, too.

Re: SFG in Prison

Post  middlemamma on 5/20/2010, 2:28 pm

I have a 23 year old friend in prison serving a sentance for 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter. He ran a red light, and his girlfriend and best friend were killed. He had no toxins in his blood. He was negligent, ran a red light and is serving 18 years. He will be 36 when he is released.

I have another friend who was drinking and passed out behind the wheel and he will be heading to prison any day now. The man that was his passenger died in the accident was my son's father. My wonderful friend and ex-husband. A very good man.

I have written to my 23 year old friend for about 2 years now. Couple times a month. From his letters it is very clear prisons teach how to be a better criminal. Certainly not intentionally...it's just the way the society "inside" has a tendancy to be.

This article is a hopeful piece. People do make mistakes. There are consequences to their mistakes. If they are paying their consequences and can make the choice to IMPROVE, GROW, LEARN, so that when (if) released they can actually contribute to this world and do the best they can to make ammends.

I know a life cannot be returned, I know some things are unforgivable...I understand prision isn't supposed to be "fun" or "enjoyable"...but without the ability to have a taste of what you are missing, or the hope to be something better than you were...you are not releasing an improved person...you are releasing someone with hatred and evil built up to be released on the innocent of this world.

I may be a bleeding heart....but I believe this is an awesome thing. Thanks for sharing Tim.
