Hello from NC!

Post  CrystalinNC on 5/20/2010, 9:41 pm

I am really hoping for a successful attempt at a garden this year. I LOVE the whole concept of the SFG, especially since space is hard to come by on our city lot. I made a small attempt (1 box) last year in the most sunny spot in our back yard. Basically the only thing that came of that was a lot of basil.

This year I moved to the small strip of grass beside our house. I added one more 4x4 box and a 2x2 for herbs. I have space over there for 1 more 4x4, but I wanted to see how things went before adding another one. I also have a few things in containers up by our house. I really got a late start, so I'm keeping track of all the things I need to get a better start next year. If there still isn't enough sun beside the house, I'm not sure what my husband will think about moving to the front:)

You'd never know that I grew up on a farm by my lack of horticultural knowledge, so I'm eager to learn all I can and have fun along the way!

NC here too...

Your husband will love the yummies that come out of the garden in the front. While you might have missed the early season crops, you still have plenty to plant now, and soon it will be time to be thinking of things for the fall - bountiful harvests to be had!

Welcome!

Hi there, Crystal! I'm in the Columbia, SC area. How are conditions up there? We've had a little rain recently, but not nearly enough.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I do have some things that have been in the ground for a little while. i've had to do second plantings on a couple of things because critters were nibbling. I think the bunnies have been in the garden.

We got a lot of rain at the beginning of this week which was good for most things, but my newest lettuces took a pretty good beating. I'm waiting to see if they per back up or if I'll need to plant those again. I'm going to have to get something to keep the bunnies out and then plant some more cantaloupe.

Crystal,
Welcome to the forums and SFG.
I am in Hampstead, NC near Wilmington.
Where are you located? (how about you PB?)
This is my first try at SFG and my 2nd chance at gardening.
Be sure to check out Lower South's regional page. (that's where I think I am supposed to be)
Tim Wardell is the host and is very friendly and helpful. (i'm sure all of the moderators are too)
these forums have lots of info and links to great websites.
Good Luck,
Jim

Hello!

We are in Rocky Mount. I'll have to take a look at the region page. I already got some great info and ideas fro Tim's blog. I love the informative videos!
