A western welcome to you M (I feel like a British Agent ...in the garden I have given up my license to kill). Do you have a seed order in yet?

I guess I mean a catalog order.

Over the years looking through seed catalogs has become part of my garden planning strategy.

Deborah ....was not trying to scare you.

Welcome, Margaret, to SFG! I'm with you: "hurry spring" I just dug my boxes out of the snow with my bare hands I was so desperate!

I know you are going to love this type of gardening. I love it, this website, the friends I've made here, and the help everyone gives each other on these forums.

I look forward to reading about your progress.

to claire...couldn't reply to you directly for some reason....i aslo dug out my boxes with my bare hands!!! nothing like it ...right?
our beds are huge so i'm afrain i might be overwhelmed with the SFG, but i'm going to give it a try in two of the beds...they are approximately 5' x 30 ft.....looking forward to trying this method...i'm going to the thrift store to look for some old venetian blinds for the dividers.....think that would work?

That is so awesome M.

For all the years that I have been gardening, and as deep as I am into heirloom seed, I have never saved my own. Bought a book on how-to YEARS ago but just never did it.

Deborah ….thinking that maybe that is the new skill to develop this year (suggestions on what is good to start?)

Hi mwood4d,

Welcome to the forum. I, too, have several 5 foot wide raised beds that I made before I started SFG. That middle row down the center is a very difficult space to do anything with. I suggest plants that require little or no tending once they're planted. I find that it hurts me to step on Mel's mix to tend that row, and it defeats the purpose of the system. Some years I leave that space empty because it's just to awkward to tend.

Hello..thanks for the tip....i'm hoping that I can make some adjustments.....i usually use most of the raised beds for flowers, zinnias..i just can't get enough of this flower...they make the perfect cut flower arrangement and they bloom from july to october....the other beds have various perrenials and annuals...one bed is used for vegetables and I'm hoping that I can make some adjustments to this bed so that I can attempt this SFG....i'm looking forward to this!..what did you use for the grid....i read that old venetian blinds can be used??? what do you think of them????
thanks again...happy gardening!

Old blinds work fine for grids. They're also good for making plant markers.

Dowels, broomsticks, re-bar, plastic molding, slats,...whatever's on hand, cheap, or you like the look of. A lot of folks say string just doesn't hold up though.
