Today's been hard. The kids are really struggling. It's so sad... our house seems so quiet and different without her.

Thanks everyone!

Well, my little dachshund somehow squeezed under the privacy fence and got into the gardens. She either ate a D-Con bait or ate a vole that died after eating one, and passed away yesterday.

My deepest, heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your sweet four legged family member.

We have also had a scary experience with the D-con blocks. For some reason they are extra tasty to dogs. My Heeler at 7 months old smelled them still in an unopened package, in a plastic shopping bag in the middle of the kitchen table. I had set my newly purchased items from Lowe's down and then ran out to take care of the calf. I left them alone for maybe 10 minutes and when I came back inside he had some how gotten the bag with the D-con pulled off the table, out of the bag, packaged opened and managed to eat 6 blocks. Since I had evidence of his misdoings I was able to get him to a vet with in 15 minutes of me finding him. They made him vomit half a dozen times, loaded his stomach with activated charcol and put him on a high dose of vitamin k for 10 days which counter acts the blood thining of the D-com blocks. D-com is so evil. My heart aches for you and your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss.. We lost our long time companion in Feb and I understand what you are feeling. Its obvious by looking at your photos that your dog was well loved and got excellent care.. Please remember all the good and funny times !!

Thank you, everyone. It's so hard right now. My kids, my DH and I buried Chloe last evening in a "off the path" spot on our property. The kids either wrote her a letter or drew her a pictures (younger ones) about how they loved her and will miss her. We picked flowers from the SFG and put the letters and flowers in with her. They are all still trying to get used to life without our little weiner dog. Just not the same around our house without her. Our other dog seems affected by it too. Of course, we can never really know for sure what she is thinking or how much she understands, but it's obvious that something is different.

I'm trying to deal with the guilt I have and the feeling that my kids didn't HAVE to be put through this. Wish I could go back a week or two and do things differently.

Thanks again for all your kind words.

Jenny

Oh, jen, I am so sorry to learn about the loss of your doggie.

I'm going home and hug all mine and let them crawl all over me the entire evening.

Sending hugs your way, jen.

Jenny, let me start by saying I am so sorry for your loss.
I have 3 dogs. One of them is blind, deaf, and has a bleeding disorder from catching a poisoned mole a few years ago. She gets along OK in our house but it is sad. We have to watch her all the time to make sure she does not hurt herself. She tore part of her nail off once and it looked like a masacre in the kitchen.
We now have a problem with rats. My city hall has given us one of the boxes full of D-Con. I worry everyday that they will find one of the poisoned rats and end up the same way. The city worker assured me that the rats will die in their den but as of today the dogs have caught 3 rats. (I think they are to slow with the poison making it easier for the dogs to get them). Luckily I caught them right away and got them to drop the rat. Now I watch all the dogs constantly.
Just another warning to everyone about the poison.
