Greetings from the Show Me state

Post  eolsen on 6/2/2010, 7:50 am

Hi, my name is Erik and I found this place after paging through Mel's book at my sister's house in Iowa over Memorial Day weekend. I bought the book yesterday and will be gathering the materials for my first 4x4 this weekend.

I never enjoyed weeding or working soil but I always want to plant things. When I read more about SFG it was like a light went off in my head. With a 4x4 or two we can plant the vegies and plants we want without spending a ton of work. Also, I've wanted to compost for some time and this may just get me started with that as well.

Welcome! Just in the nick of time. I have caught myself standing in my garden wanting to do something but there is nothing to do. This is SOOOO much easier, neater and more organized than regular in ground gardening. And my soil is so bad that soil improvement will take years, whereas I can have a productive garden in my boxes now.

Welcome

Welcome, fellow Missourian, and welcome to the world of SFG! This is my first year, too. I'm about two and half hours south of you, between Sikeston and Poplar Bluff.

Don't be afraid to jump right in and get started. If you have questions there are so many wonderful and experienced people on here who will have answers.

Best wishes on your first year, and send us photos if you can.

Hello, I am also from St. Louis and just started SFG this year also. I have 4 raised beds but I was only able to fill 2 last year (due to expenses). This year I started to make one a lasagna bed but then found the SFG book and have currently made 2 batches of Mel's mix to fill the other bed and a number of self watering boxes I made. Welcome! I am so enjoying this and look forward to posting some of my pictures later tonight.
