Speaking of blackberries

Post  ske on 6/11/2010, 12:30 pm

(Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct forum.)

I canned 24 jars of wild blackberry jam the other day and it is delicious. It was my first time canning and also my first time making jam that wasn't by the freezer recipe. They turned out great!

My little boy loves picking the berries and is a good little wild blackberry & huckleberry scout. My husband, son, & I spent a couple of afternoons together picking the berries. In past years, we would only pick a few to eat right away but I guess with the "gardening bug" we also got the "jam" bug.

Some good times, great memories, and mighty good eatin'!

ooohhhhh YUMMMMMMMMMMM

When I got my raspberry shrubs, I was thinking of my grandma's raspberry preserves... and we used to go huckleberry picking too

Jellies and jams those are among my goals, too!

YUMMY! I'd be interested in your recipe. I guess my husband use to help his mom make jams/jelly and preserves when he was young. But I have never done it before. I don't have any berries in yet, but I have tons of apricots from a neighbors tree that is in crouching on my front yard. I hate apricots because they attract earwigs (which is second on my disgusting list topped by cockroaches). So thinking I should take advantage and if nothing else make jam/jelly for Christmas gifts.

I just used the recipe from the Sure*Jell box. Yes, we are going to give a few as gifts too but we are definitely keeping most of the jars.
