Something devoured my entire squash stem

Post  CPN on 6/14/2010, 11:54 am

Well, I was all concerned about my squash not producing. WELL, I go out now and my entire squash vine is severed. There were two maggot looking bugs inside the main vine. HOW VERY DISAPPOINTING with all the work we put into this. I had to pull the entire plant. Now I am concerned about what will attack my other things or if this will attack them. What was it and what to do now. I have tried to not put chemicals on this time. But I have some Sevin dust. Will use it rather than see my whole garden eaten up.. What to do?????

it may be the squash vine borer. I believe they have a specific time to wreak havoc in your garden. Many people in my area do not plant their zucchini or squash until around this time of the summer when these pests seem to have finished their cycle. The seeds and plants take off very well in the warmed earth and you will still have a good harvest.

There is another thread with some information. I have posted the link - hopefully it is helpful
