(((HUGS))) How bad is the damage??? The first summer we lived in this house the deer and rabbits wreaked havoc on my garden. I bought liquid fence and it worked like a dream!!!!! I'm hoping the deer left most of your garden alone.

Oh Dear! I hear the liquid works very well to keep animals away. Be sure to use it after each rain, the rain washes it away. Good luck and hope they left you some garden.

The deer ate the tops off my beans will they grow back?

They especially love beans & sweet potatoes. I had pole beans one year & there wasn't a leaf anywhere up the stalks except at the top where the deer couldn't stand up & reach. If you can keep the deer out, they should continue to grow. I've tried all the products & other advice - collected hair from a beauty shop & clothes-pinned it to the wire around the garden, placed wet diapers around the perimeter, can't remember what else, but what we finally found that worked was yellow caution tape from the hardware store. we tied strips to the pear tree they usually strip, & on fence posts & wire & had no problems at all last year. I know how frustrating it is, but hopefully you will find something that works.

I am sorry to hear you are having deer trouble. We have a chain link fence across our back yard and the deer come right up to the fence on the other side of our garden. My husband swears they can smell the veggies.

I understand they are very destructive. Let us know how it goes keeping them out. In the meantime, you might want to put a few new seeds in near the damaged beans. If they don't recover, you will have some nearby growing.

So sorry for your troubles. We tried liquid fence and it seemed to work for a while, don't know if we should have re applied more often, but suddenly, all the tops of my tomato plants were gone and several strawberry plants pulled out of the ground by the roots (thay had been transplanted just about ten days prior). From the sizes of the hoof prints, we had a family veggie buffet going on.

Because my sfg is not a typical size (I used an exisiting garden bed about 7 X 25) I purchased 20 ft lengths of 3/4 inch pvc pipe and attached them from one side of the garden to the other using larger PVC pipes, 1 1/4 inch, cut in 3 foot lengths and burying the larger PVC halfway into the ground. We then inserted the ends of the smaller PVC into the larger ones. This created 8 ft high arches. They are very stable. Around this we attached 7 ft deer netting with zip ties and created a door flap at each end secured by velcro tape so we can get in and out with little trouble. No deer in the garden, though we see them often in the yard during the evening.

I have a friend who has a VERY large garden. She invites some of the local folks up to hunt her deer.

Ive use moveable items like pinwheels and such, as well as reflective tape blowing in the wind with success. Ive also use predator urine.
