New Pic of my SFG

Post  MarcyG on 6/18/2010, 8:21 am

My first 2 boxes are doing awesome and I was at a local garden center and they had just gotten in a shipment of Vermiculite so of course I bought another bag and have built a 3rd box I just need some more compost and it'll be filled and planted.

That's lovely and it looks so easy to take care of without bending. I like the way you have a place to hold the hose built in. Nice job!

Very nice. I like the idea of the table tops, too.

Really nice! I want to build my Mom a table top, but she's SOOO freakin' resistant to SFG it makes me insane!!! Hopefully, when she comes to my house this Saturday and sees my garden (while not spectacular, better than it's ever been) and realizes that hey, for only getting 6 or so hours of sun, it's doing REALLY well.

I am curious as to why your mom is resistant to SFG? What are her objections. To me is seemed like such fun from the starting gate, I can't imagine? Does she not "believe" in it?

It looks so classy! I really like the table tops. I may have to do that at my next house. Oh, next house, where are you?

Chopper, (sorry for the sort of hijack to the thread) my Mom is resistant because she's 64 years old, the daughter of a professional greenhouse owner, who is the son of a farmer. She just doesn't believe that she can have a successful garden in 6" of soil. She doesn't believe that the nutrients are there, she claims to have tried container gardening time and again, and it hasn't worked for her (tomatoes in pots, which by the way HAVE worked for me, not huge production, but I still got some nice tomatoes) and because she hasn't stumbled on the idea herself. It's just too foreign for her. She said by next year she just may take me up on it, but with our relationship as it is, she'd secretly be waiting for it to fail so she could point out how she was right. I just hope to prove her wrong when she sees what I've done in my shaded yard.

Picture painted. I understand completely. Especially the part about "she didn't stumble on it herself". LOL. I *know* her... Been there, didn't bother arguing with that.

Well, success will show her it is possible, and failure will give her a warm cozy winter.

Gosh, I love those tabletops. I'd love to have some 12" deep. That would save wear and tear on my knees and back as I get older.
Good job.
