Grab Your Butt

Post  boffer on 3/11/2010, 10:30 pm

Grab your butt and plant it! Might as well. I've had the butts of Romaine and celery start growing in the compost pile. I had dumped them on top and walked away, no love at all. I was so moved by their will to survive, that I planted them properly in a SFG. Why not?

two years ago I had a tomato plant growing out of a crack in the asphalt, and I wouldn't let my husband pull it out. It didn't have a prayer of bearing fruit, and I couldn't transplant it, because the roots were underneath the asphalt!

So, Boffer, you can plant your butts, and I can have ass phalts.

Cute Martha! I tell you growing things are just amazing! Boffer, did the romaine & celery produce anything after planted in the sfg? And Betty, in my limited knowledge, I call the part of the romaine and celery that had the roots on it the "heart", along with others that you pull out of the ground and cut the root part off of before use ~ I'm assuming that's what you mean Boffer!

I thought it depended on which side you were looking at it. The inside edible part was the heart, and the bottom side I throw away is the butt. I heard the produce guy at the market call it that. 'Clutch your Heart' isn't as catchy anyhow! Now, about Martha's tomato that was growing in the crack of her assphalt... .....

Yes, the romaine and celery matured, and we ate them. I know a lettuce seed doesn't cost much, but I just can't throw away recycled freebies like that!

Re: Grab Your Butt

Post  Lavender Debs on 3/13/2010, 4:43 pm

Was just out singing to the babies when I saw something fresh and green coming up from the carrot square. I was sure that a green shoot the size of a large worm could not possibly be a carrot sprout.

When I scooped it out, what did I see? ......a butt! . . . .a shallot butt. It was just the root end that I commonly chop off and toss right into the thanks for coming bowl (It all goes out to the compost) It must have been hiding in the pile when I mixed it with the peat and vermiculite.

So I grabbed my butt and buried it in its very own square.
