What GOOD bugs will Neem oil and DE kill?

Post  middlemamma on Thu 8 Jul - 11:47

I have noticed some critters here and there on my plants. I have not suffered any extensive damage as of yet. I am weighing and measuring the damage to good bugs I might WANT like bees, caterpillars, butterflies, etc....

TIA

Jennie

DE will kill all caterpillars. Depending on the kind you have that might be a good or bad thing. Then again, sometimes even ones I like get zapped because I want the plant more. Case in point: I love to watch hummingbird moths, but their caterpillar is the dreaded tomato hornworm. Those I pick off and drown.

Neem oil will kill bees, among other beneficials, but it doesn't have a residual effect, so I spray in the late afternoon after the bees have left the plants. Although I try to be careful, I'm sure occasionally something beneficial gets killed, but there are times the bad guys are just taking over too much.
