Tomatoes and Nightime Reconnaisance

Post  Chopper on 7/10/2010, 3:32 am

I did my first honest day's work in the garden yesterday. Besides building the boxes that is. I have six heirloom tomatoes all squished together and each one in a 42" cage. They are taller than me and I was beginning to feel overwhelmed.

I went in and started trimming off all of the dead/bacteria spotted leaves and branches. When I was done I had trimmed 1/4 to 1/3 of each plant. I feel so much better. No more half diseased looking plants, much more air circulation and they look more manageable. There should still be enough leaves to avoid sunscald though.

And tonight, while using my flashlight to do some snail hunting I saw, in the very middle of the stand of corn, some silks! I have no idea how I will ever reach in and pick the thing, but good to know it's there.

This is a whole new experience for me to actually get some harvest! Had another garden dinner tonight. What a treat.

Howdy:

Garden dinners are so nice. A welcome change from "the store" stuff that was shipped from who knows where.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.
