Target Store's Garden Dept Closing!

Post  Garden Angel on 7/12/2010, 10:39 am

Gasp ! say it isn't so !
I had heard from my sister that the store where she lives was closing so I checked here and it is true! What a shame, the store here is right next to the Lowe's garden center and I used to go to both and the Target always had unusual varieties that the Lowe's did'nt and cheaper too. I will lament there untimey demise ! but on the other hand 75% off is good !

((hugs))

i have not had a target garden center here so didn't know they even existed.

what a shame for you. perhaps you will be able to find a local garden center that can offer unusual plants. i know i am very fortunate in my very small town to have 3 garden centers - 2 are my favs. .

It's been going on here for a few months

They've been systematically closing the garden centers here for about 3 months now .... no advertisement, no reason, no advance notice.

FWIW, The new Target that they just built down the road from me didn't even open with a garden center

man that totally bites! esp since i recently discovered that the local target in my town is goign to expand in the spring - and i sort of hoped it would have garden section. . .

you know, i found my favorite garden center by word of mouth. a friend happened to mention it in passing one day. it's small but wow is it ever well stocked - it also has the best asst of supplies for sfg - and the cheapest vermiculite in town.

so start asking where your friends shop that have cool gardens.. you might find a gem that way - this place i don't think ever advertises and it's sort of past the 'business' section if that makes sense. so i'd never have just driven by it.

I think it was a lot of hit or miss...the one I used to go to started out with a great selection of very healthy plants...unfortunately at a ridiculous premium over the surrounding stores.

As time went on, the price came down...but the plants started to look straggly and ailing -- and they were still the SAME price as everywhere else.

They closed that one a few years ago to make room for grocery...and frankly I didn't miss it.
