Hello from New York City

Hi all! I've been applying bits and pieces of the SFG method (with some modifications for round containers) to some indoor container gardening - I have zero access to outdoor space at our apartment in the city.

I'm growing herbs, including basil, chives, oregano, thyme, sage and dill; I've also got veggies going (that's a Tiny Tim tomato plant off to the right in my avatar - and don't worry, they'll all be moved away from the radiator when the heat gets turned on). Veggies include cucumbers, peas, bunching onions, baby carrots, peppers and (for now) two kinds of tomatoes. Lastly there are Alpine strawberries, which I've coaxed into starting from seed.

I'm looking forward to talking with some more gardeners. Thanks for providing this forum!

Thanks, moosedroppings Smile It hasn't been perfect by any means, I lost my first thyme and oregano, and all my parsley in the June heat wave. Thyme and oregano have been replaced -- and I have learned my parsley lesson and will not be replanting it until September.

Welcome, El. I've only been to NYC once, but I loved it.

Have you tried growing lettuce in the winter? I'm thinking about trying some indoors, but not sure how well it would work.

Your plants look great. I look forward to seeing more photos of your indoor garden. glad you\'re here

Thanks, Chopper and Ander Smile Since you asked, Ander, I've put up a few photos in the Showcase forum. I'm having way too much fun with this.

And, re: lettuce, this is my first indoor garden, but I do have a salad mix box I just started for early fall harvest. I will keep you posted on the progress!

I am just next door to you and this is my 1st yr doing a SFG.

My youngest son and girlfriend live in Washington, DC and are renting a condo unit at the moment. They are just growing basil in a pot on the community condo patio. They are in the process of buying a row house with alittle front and back yard.

They are excited that they will be able to an outside SFG and/or grow inside also.
