Love fest and baby boom in my SFG

It's love fest and baby boom in my SFG, people. Lady bugs are making love all over the place, I am finding their eggs on some leaves. Soon the aphids will be goners. So far lady bugs have kept up with them, and given ants a headache, because they are running out of places to farm them. Ladybugs are everywhere. And tonight they are all mating. Yeah!!!

The other piece of news is baby boom. It was "pick here, grab there" before, but now it's 7 zucchinis close to ready (probably tomorrow), 4 watermelons, eggplants are popping like hell, and cucumber embryos are spreading like plague. There are tons of melon babies, and store bought tomatoes finally came around and started blooming. I tied them to higher stakes today.
My pole beans are finally fruiting, very pretty!

Oldies but goodies, the wimpy kid eggplant Hansel that I started from seed out of stupidity and pigheadedness, which has been sitting there looking like a pinhead since late May, has finally decided it likes me, and started growing. Peppers are coming out, too. Not sure about their future, but it's going to be interesting...

After adding black compost from a county landfill composting program, I decided to add wheat straw mulch on top, to reflect the light, and to support even internal temperature and moisture control. Things are looking happy. I'll post pictures of "final product" tomorrow night, when I finish "strawing".

Oh no! After I read that I looked up lady bug egg images and lo and behold I had destroyed some earlier. Drat!

What great news. It ain't over 'til the first killig frost.
