Just about to plant my first garden

Post  chug a lug on 3/15/2010, 10:58 am

First garden ever - just thought I'd check the forum one more time before I head out to plant the seeds. I built the beds and mixed the soil over the past couple of weeks, finally I have a day to put some time in to plant.

I got one 4X4X6" and one 2X2X12"(hoping to get some bigger potatoes in the 12" bed). I'll be planting some lettuce, onions, carrots, lima beans, strawberries, and broccoli in the 4X4.

Wish me luck.

Kevin

Hi Kevin and Good Luck!

Where are you that you can put seeds in the ground right now? If our weather here holds as it has been with no frost, I may in about 3 wks.

I'm in Florida, all indications are that we just finished up our last cold snap. It looks to be in the sixties and up for the next week. If for some weird reason it freezes again, oh well I'll just start over.

I guess everything went okay, hopefully nothing gets dug up by the neighborhood wildlife.

Best of luck with your first garden. Be thankful that you're starting out with SFG. It will make your experience sooooo much more positive.

Welcome Floridian!

Its a learning experience and you'll learn as you go. I was a brand new gardener last year and enjoyed it.
Its amazing to see those first plants start to shoot out of the ground and that first veggie you bring into the house to eat, or as in snap peas, eat in the garden, is superb.
Taste can't be beat.
Good luck and have fun!
