Hello from Elk Grove California:) (Near Sacramento)

Post  rjsehm6 on 8/11/2010, 9:28 pm

Hello, I am new to SFG and super excited to get started. Usually, I play then pay and this time I really want to do the research on gardening so that I can be as successful as many of the folks here on this forum. I am hoping to get advice on "Lessons Learned" with SFG from anyone who is willing to help a rookie. Thanks in advance and I look forward to going though this journey with all of you.

As of right now, I have put my 4x4 12 inch box together. I am currently looking for the optimal spot in my backyard. Bought 5 bags of Mel's Mix (2 cubic square) each. Any advice after this point would be appreciated.

Welcome RJ: The number one bit of advise anyone can give a new person on the forum is if you do not have you own personal copy of the, "ALL NEW Square Foot Gardening", book get one. You will find, like I do, that you will refer back to the book often. Actually I have two books. One I use in the garden and one I keep in the house. The one for the garden is a bit more beat up then my "house" copy.

God Bless, Ward and Mary, Coastal Virginia zone 7.

Wardinwake-That is excellent advice. I do have one copy but I will pick another for the garden. By the way, for anyone who does not have a copy, Borders Book Store has them for 5.99:)
