Who's on Maui

Post  Dennis on 8/13/2010, 4:07 pm

Just got into SFG late this year (7/24/10) We have 4 - 4x4's with tomatoes, peppers, carrots, radishes, onions, brussel sprouts, lettuce, broccoli, bush beans, cukes and zucchini all doing well, Made our own mix.
I thought there would be lots more people from Hawaii on here.

Hi Dennis, welcome to the forum and to SFG!

There are some people from the islands on here, but you're right... you should tell all your neighbors and teach them about SFG, too! Smile

Your garden sounds fantastic. While I'm not familiar with the growing season in Hawaii (all year??), I'd think you have plenty of time. I started some pumpkins here in Virginia over July 4th weekend and they are already blooming.

I look forward to hearing more about your garden. Got any pictures to share?

I posted some pictures in my personal gallery, yes I believe its pretty much all year here, we do have a rainy season in the winter but usually never gets below 60.

What's On Oahu

Post  Chopper on 8/17/2010, 4:14 pm

Ok, I couldn't resist.

Do you have much difference in day length there or is that pretty stable winter to summer?

Aloha, Dennis! I am all-too-slowly moving from CA to the beautiful upcountry of Maui later this year. I have a hale with 9 4x4's, which I have been restoring to production, now putting out onions, garlic (fantastic fresh!), tomatoes, da kine, and I have plans for composting, vermicomposting, and much more. It's been a dream for the past 5 years, and now it is only a few months away. My one problem has been the wind, which has shredded my tomatoes and snarled the squash vines terminally. I'm planning to make a greenhouse to block those tradewinds a bit. Good to know I won't be the only SFG'er there!

Sorry, but it seems Dennis has not been back since mid August of last year. Don't despair, we still want you here, even if there are not many members in Hawaii. There are a couple that we hear from infrequently, one is even a Certified SFG Instructor.

What a wonderful place to live, I have visited Kauai and Oahu, and have friends that moved to Maui several years ago.

Please keep us updated on your progress with your 9 4X4's (that's a lot!) and your greenhouse. And please, share pictures, we love them.
