Raining today

Post  Old Hippie on 8/22/2010, 11:04 am

so that means I can't work out in the yard. Guess that is a sign I need to do some housework, laundry, etc. On the up side, the rain will help ease the forest fire situation and clear some of the smoke from the air.

Maybe I can find something to plant inside.

Kind of funny you should mention that. As of yesterday, we weren't supposed to get rain til later this week. I was watching a cooking show on TV with one of our cats, and heard an odd noise outside. Sounded like a car with engine problems... or maybe a trashcan falling over....? The cat hopped up to investigate. Around then it started sounding more like a herd of horses coming down the street! Sure enough... it was absolutely pouring out there! Lasted only a few minutes, but hurray, now I don't have to water today!

And you've got me thinking I need to get out there and start planting. After kitty wakes up from her nap in my lap. Smile

Incurable I can probably live with but do you know if it is fatal? Maybe I should add something to my caffeine drip.....my other addiction.

I think I should start some things in pots for my cold frame.

I just re-read your post again. Forest fires? Are they close by? Shocked

I lived in California for a time and those fires are scary. Where I was living was never immediately in danger but I know what it's like to wake up in the morning and the windows are glowing red, and the ash coming in under the doors and windows and getting *everywhere*. Be safe!!! :!:

Thanks Megan. We are fine here in the city except for the smoke and the ash. There are health advisories on the radio and on TV warning people not to do a lot of strenuous activities outdoors and for people with respiratory issues to avoid being outdoors as much as possible. Some sports activities that had been planned for this weekend had to be cancelled. A few of my customers from work who live on acreages out of town have been evacuated and others are on "alert". The rain we got last night and this morning really helped clear the air so I hope people will be able to go back home. The sun came out a while ago and it is the first time in a week that we have actually seen it instead of a red glow through the smoke. There is actually a patch of blue sky.
