How much of Mel's Mix do you need for 4x4

Post  chechi on 8/28/2010, 7:24 pm

Hi everyone,
I am new to SFG and was wondering how many bags of Mel's Mix do I need to fill the 4x4? I found some bags of Mel's Mix at Lowes and planning to go right now but I don't know how many bags to get. It comes in 2 cu ft bags.
Any help would be great.

Thank you

chechi

I have a 4'X4'X8" deep bed. I put in 4 bags. The MM has settled after a few rainstorms and is about 2" from the top. I probably need another bag or 2 to top it off.

I would suggest purchasing 4 and see how that does. You can always get another bag if you need to top it off after it settles.

mathematically, you need 4

realistically, after the mix is saturated and settled down, at least 6

I put 10 cu ft of MM in my 7" beds and it settled to 6"  I would buy 5 of the 2 cu ft bags.
