Mycobactrium vaccae

Post  WardinWake on 9/10/2010, 3:47 pm

Howdy Folks:

How is that for an eye catching title? rofl

Organic Gardening Magazine Oct/Nov 2010 issue has an article on page 62 called Garden Smarts. The first paragraph reads,

"Not only are gardeners happier, but they might be smarter, suggest a new study from the Sage Colleges in Troy, New York. In 2007 United Kingdom researchers linked that happy feeling gardeners have after they've been digging in the dirt to a little soil organisum called mycobatrium vaccae, which decreases anxiety and increases serotonin, the "happy hormone." The same common soil bacterium has now been found to increase learning ability."

The article in well worth reading in full so I encourge all ya'll to give it a look see.

The same bacterium must be in abundance in the Square Foot Garden because SFG'ers are happy not to be hoeing, tilling, digging, weeding..... oh, and see how smart we are? Now we know why! rock on

God Bless, Ward and Mary.
