Fungus Control

When it is time to replant your squares--- clean all debris=leaves, stems, sweep it clean and Trash it. Spray a fungicide even if you are not goin to plant again until Spring. Do it then and do it just before planting. Don't let plants lay dead on the soil all winter. This will be your worst night mare (either soon or later)
Drench the squares with a fungicide= Daconil or Fung-Onil. Then turn your soil under.
Always mulch tomato plants, peppers, squash, cucumbers. This prevents a soil splash on your plants when it rains or when you water. Fungus is in the soil. Fungus is also spread by air from surrounding areas that have weeds or others who have fungus on their veggie plants. Spray the outer areas of your lawn with fungicide.
Never compost tomato plants, cucumber, squash plants. They are the worlds worst for causing a fungus in your compost. (there is a fungus among us) Then spring comes and you add that fungus to all your squares.

In addition to treating the soil for fungus, you should treat the plants on a regular basis but if you dont want chemicals on your veggies------try to use the funicide up until they start producing---------OR

a safe mixture to help prevent fungus on plants would be to use a Hose End Sprayer
Add 1 cup of Antiseptic Mouthwash
Add 3 cups of water.
Set dial sprayers to 1 tbs per gallon.
Antiseptic Mouthwash discourages disease from breeding in the soil.
If you want to help run off the insects at the same time----
Add 1 cup of Dish Soap
Dish Soap softens the soils, washes pollution off plants and deters insects cause the insects get a tummy ache and don't want to come back.
Spray late evenings---but give enough time to dry before dark. Spray once a week.
If you have a fungus---you should use a fungicide--it is the only way to start getting rid of it. If the fungus is real bad you should just trash the plant(sadly) or it will just spread to places without you knowing it.

Trash all plants that have fungus---bag it--- give it to the trash man.
Cleaning all debris is the # 1 way to prevent fungus from spreading.

Are the fungicides you suggest organic?

Thanks for this information and the formula for the mouthwash. Much appreciated. Next season I am taking a much more proactive role in disease prevention.

And no, the fungicide mentioned is not organic. I like the idea of spraying until fruit sets.

I have also heard the hydrogen peroxide can be effective. Maybe in place or in addition to the mouthwash for a homemade spray?

No, Daconil and Fung-Onil are not organic.
I don't even know if Dish Soap is organic. Or if Mouthwash is Organic. I am sure they have some type of chemical in them.
Someone once said "things are organic if they can put it in their mouth or on their bodies safely."
just being funny---Hot peppers are organic but I aint putting one in my mouth. that hurts!




I don't know much about peroxide. I don't know if mixed with mouthwash that it won't have a chemical reaction. Test it on an unimportant plant. (yeh right---who grows an unimportant plant---right?)

I've read that cornmeal can function as a fungicide.
