Hello from Charleston, SC
I am all fired up about this new gardening system. We live on old phosphorus mining land. Haven't had much luck with growing vegetables. Any one know where I can find the vermiculite around here.

Welcome IRussel
Howdy:
A quick Google search did not turn up a source for vermiculite in Charleston. Locally I have found it at True Value hardware, Southern States, and two local nurseries. Vermiculite is also used by swimming pool installers and some will have vermiculite for sale to the general public so call around.
Again welcome to the SFG Forum and God Bless, Ward.

Re: Hello from Charleston, SC
Hello Lrussell! We really love to have "all fired up" gardeners on this site. You will find many here and you will find a whole lot of help, too.
Veggie gardening in a box without using ANY local dirt is the best solution to gardening. But as you know, Mel Bartholomew recommends in his book, All New Square Foot Gardening, that you add vermiculite to your soil mix. And we all know how hard it is to find it.
We have a list of resources on the site. Visit the General SFG Talk and check out the Vermiculite forum to see if anyone has posted a vendor. If none, please add one for your location when you find it.
I wish your first plea for help could have a better answer
but we're all in the same boat right now. Keep coming back to the forums and let us hear about your progress.
