Hello from North Queensland

Post  N.Q on Tue Mar 16, 2010 9:33 pm

Hi all, finally managed to onto the site. Had trouble using Opera so I've had to come back to the dark side and brush the dust off of Explorer.

Saw the SFG idea last year and set up three 7*3 square beds for the summer wet season. The best we did was 9and a half kilograms of cucumber off one plant. Had a great run with some squash. The maize stood up well in nearly 900mm of rain but the beans got overshadowed by the maize and didnt do so flash....but you live and learn. However the sunflower in the middle looked magnificant Just used garden soil for the beds as I hadn't read Mel's book by that stage but have managed to track down some vermiculite buts its only medium grade, found a various supply of compost and still looking for peat moss.
Another three 4*4 beds to go in this year.

Howdy Mate:

Glad to have you on board the forum and to Square Foot Gardening. I will have to get out my metric to English conversion chart to see your harvest in pounds. It sounds like you did quite OK. I like the fact that you kept track of your harvest. Let us know how you do with this years garden and let us know if we can help.

Again welcome and God Bless.
