What new thing are you going to try?

Post  middlemamma on 10/12/2010, 3:06 pm

I am going to try Kholrabi, corn, and snap peas this coming spring. Those are a few that I can think off off hand.

What are you going to try new?

I'm going to try one of those self watering boxes in the spring with strawberries. Other than that just about everything I'm growing is new to me or a different variety than what I have grown before !

I'm going to try SFG'ing in my back yard Laughing

I haven't gotten to planning what to grow yet. I had bought some seed for a fall garden this year that never got into the ground; I'll try some of it for the spring.

It's not a square foot garden technique, but I'm going to try trash can potatoes next year. Google it.

I am going to try yellow beets, green pepper, hot peppers, and parsley. I will also try a spring leaf lettuce that is slow to bolt.

new things

Post  ander217 on 10/12/2010, 8:40 pm

We are trying several new tomato varieties, trying to find the best ones for our hot and humid summer climate.

These are new varieties for us next year: Rattlesnake pole beans, Bolita beans, Greasy Grits beans, Dixie Speckled Butterpeas (those are for Hubby), White Whippoorwill field peas, and Alabama Red okra.

We're also trying some new lettuces which are supposed to be more tolerant of hot weather, and I'll be planting corn salad for the first time.

(We went a little crazy when we visited Baker Creek.)

I would be in such trouble if I could visit Baker Creek. I already googled to see how far it was from my sister's house in Missouri.

I'm trying several new things at the moment, though that's not hard to do, since I'm pretty new to gardening. I have 4 different kinds of bush beans in the ground at the moment, and I've never grown any before. Poona Kheera (an cucumber from India) is what I'm most excited about at the moment. I had to move the tomato plant in the next square tonight, because the Poona Kheera looks like it's going to take over the world. I also found the first small cuke growing on it!

I have 2 Brandywine tomato plants that I grew from seed. Both the variety and the fact that I grew it from seed are new to me.

I'd say those are the two things I'm most excited about right now...actually, I could go on and on, but I'll save that for another post!

SFG really is new for me, but I'm doing all sorts of things next year!
Potatoes
Watermelons
Herbs
Lavender
Onions
Peppers
I'm sure there's more but I can't remember what I'm planting. Oh! What about Leeks? Anyone had good luck with them? I figure I had better try everything so I know what I like.
