How heavy ?

Post  jumiclads on 11/25/2010, 2:43 pm

Does anyone have an idea of how heavy a 4' x 4' x 6" deep with solid bottom box would be, full of MM mix. I know it may vary depending on how wet, thickness of wood etc. Jus an average would do. I don't want anyone stand on their bathroom scales holding the box full of MM mix with carrots growing in square 1 etc Very Happy But if someone is clever enough to work it out I would be most grateful.

Last spring, we played with the numbers. We came to the conclusion that 115 kg was a reasonable figure. My adult son and I can lift up a 4x4 TT box, though not move it far.

Thanks Boffer. I thought maybe it would have took a little longer for an answer. I will put this figure in my ideas book and when I get going in the new year I will put it to good use. I will let you all know what I am thinking then. thinking

If your only going 6" of mix ..... I come up with 134# ...filled with mix, but "bone dry".

you can add another 40-50# to that, just by soaking it with water

I'm assuming 1" thick boards & 1/4" MDF/plywood on the bottom?
