I'm drooling

Post  dixie on 12/9/2010, 12:05 pm

I just got my Baker Creek catalog & they have outdone themselves on this one. The photos are fantastic. I wish I lived near enough to visit, just might have to plan a vacation out that way sometime.

i hear you on that!!! i love that one, too!

i also just LOVE reading the italian seed catalog - it's all words, no pics, just descriptions and litlte asides in it here and there wtih cooking tips, etc. i just want to head on over there and learn all i can at the feet. ..

here's the link: http://www.growitalian.com/

'cause i figure you're now real intrigued. you have to print it yourself though but it doesn't take long - or just view it online. Smile me, i print, 'cause sitting in a comfy chair in the living room while the kids run around in circles (literally) while i thumb through my seed catalogs is my kind of heaven.

I just got my Baker Creek one too and am loving it! My hubby was bug-eyed looking at all the "alien" produce in there. I agreed to not try anything 'unusual' this year since it's our first garden and he already doesn't like most veggies. But I'm sure it's because he's never had FRESH veggies! No

lemonie - i think you're right! my kids LOVE eating swiss chard, kohlrabi, brussel sprouts, spinach, nasturtiums (beautiful in salads and adds a peppery bite ) and all sorts of other things.

set aside a few squares for the 'odd' stuff. *grin* it's so much fun! and btw, brussel sprouts you grow and harvest after frost - omgosh, sooooooooooo sweet! i LOVE brussel sprouts now! and it's the COOLEST ever plant! Smile i'm actually going to grow it for ornamental usage in my front yard landscaping and hten just happen to harvest from it next fall. *grin*

in case you don't know - i have three kids. 6,4,2

edited to add: watermelon radish is fun to grow - and not too hot.

i just love my seed catalogs. .. i'm hoping to do a local exchange here with other gardeners in person so we all have a huge asst w/o a lot of expense. but that i'll owrk on next month - it's on my to do list - along with rebuilding my indoor seed starting set up so we can have all sorts of adorable little baby plants growing by spring time.

Hubby came to bed the other night and asked what I was reading. When I told him it was one of my seed catalogs he just laughed and shook his head. He couldn't believe I would relax to reading about all the different kinds of seeds!

Still waiting

I'm still waiting for my Baker Creek catalog.

We spend our anniversary each year in Branson and always plan a stop at Baker Creek on the way home to eat lunch at their vegetarian restaurant or bakery, and spend the remainder of our funds on seeds. (They are closed on Saturday, but open on Sunday.)
