Large Garden

Post  FoxTracks on 3/18/2010, 1:02 pm

Hi! I was just turned onto Square Foot gardening this week and I am hoping to make it work in our situation. We spent a long time building a garden last fall that is 11.5' x 11.5'....before I knew of the smaller garden method. I am hoping that I can make a cross path in the middle and then use the square foot gardening methods otherwise. Do you think this will work? Is there a better solution? Is there anything I should be warned of? Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. If your existing bed has access on all four sides, the cross path won't be necessary. Put one path down the middle, in either direction you chose, 3.5 feet wide. This will give you 2 beds at 4x11.5 and be a better use of the space. Come to think of it, you could make it horseshoe shape. Layout as above, then at one end of the pathway, you could have a box that is 3.5x2
