Donated seeds

Post  ander217 on 1/1/2011, 9:44 am

I received a newsletter today from the good folks at Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. It mentioned that they have seeds left from last year which are too old to sell, but still viable. Rather than compost them they offer them for free to community gardens, schools, nursing homes, etc.

If you know of any organization in need of free seeds you can contact them at gardens@southernexposure.com. Include the words, "SESE Donation Request" in the subject.

Thanks for the heads up. I just sent a request email for seeds. Should be fun to see what gets sent. I take care of an elementary school garden.

Wow, fast work, Patty from Y! They said this is their busy season so don't expect to get the seeds the next day but they will fill as many requests as they can, when they can.

hit the jackpot

You think I work fast well Southern Exposure Seeds works faster. I just got my free seeds today. They were very generous. I asked for anything that would go in an herb, shade or native garden. I received 17 packets. I sent a thank you note via email and need to send a paper one on school letter head, so they know their seeds will have a nice new home at a school. Thanks for the heads up.

I, too, sent in a request today, the 6th.
Our local organic community garden grows several rows of crops for our local Food Pantry. The lists continue to grow with more people out of work or struggling financially on low pay.
Anything they send will help.
