To everyone getting slammed with the winter weather

Post  kimbertangleknot on 2/2/2011, 1:28 am

I just want to say that I hope your careful, have all the supplies you need, and don't need to go anywhere. I just turned on the weather channel and yikes. My hubby talks to people all over the US daily, and he said that in CT somewhere they were predicting 20".

So, be careful, be safe, and be prepared! They're forecasting another snow system starting out west on Sunday and working it's way east!

And to the Aussies, I hope it loses strength before your typhoon (or is it tsunami..) hits, also hope that everyone can find shelter.

We had an ice storm here, too, Kimber...only a light glaze, but it always amazes me how much our weather mirrors the US with snow and ice.

Adding my wishes for warmth and safety to everyone.

They never talk about Europe unless the Olympics are on or something. I can't stand ice storms. Give me snow storms. Hope everyone across the pond is dealing with any weather issues that come their way. So far, all we've been getting is rain. Thank god for the mountains.

To those of you snowed in or just suffering from cabin fever, I LOVE Groundhog Day, it's my favorite Holiday.

For the long and short of it, Spring is on it's way (that's the short).

If you want the long I shared some of my thoughts on my blog, and a link to a history lesson on February 2nd, which is half way between the winter equinox and summer solstice. So grab your favorite hot beverage, bundle up, and enjoy-or not.

I'm confused... do you mean between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox?

Let me check, I was half way through my first cup of coffee, after sleeping 45 minutes and waking, all night because hubby could not sleep.

Guess, I needed to finish that cup as per
http://www.yellowrivergameranch.com/bio.htm
Around the fifth century, the European Celts believed that animals had certain "supernatural" powers on special days that were half-way between the Winter Equinox and Spring Solstice (forty days after Christmas and forty days before Easter). Folklore from Germany and France indicated that when groundhogs and bears came out of their winter dens too early, they were frightened by their shadow and retreated back inside for four to six weeks.

Sorry!!!

Our temps stayed above freezing last night so we had rain as our morning treat. I'm not sure if Phil saw his shadow or not but here.... we're expecting 6 more weeks of winter. Wink

Happy Imbolc to all and may your day be as blessed as mine! Made it through the storm. Over 10" plus up to 60 mile hour winds. Sister tried to go out of town and ended up in the ditch wrecked. Only a strained shoulder.

Doing the shoveling out and cleanup. Sun is shining now!

Imbolc is a Celtic festival of light. Half way between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Letting us know spring is coming. Time to prepare for the spring lambing season.

Here's a look at the snow in our backyard today. This blizzard brings our winter total to date over 60" when the average is 38" by this date and its not slowing down. This month they promise much more of it.

The back deck and our picnic table.

A view of my SFG. I won't be seeing soil for some months yet.

There's no snow here (yet!), but the computer says the temperature here in Culver City, CA (Zone 10a) is 36 degrees F! Shocked

I feel like that's how cold it was in our bedroom this morning. I didn't get out of bed for an hour until my husband came in and closed the window. It was FREEZING!

No snow please Mrs. Mother Nature... People here can't drive when the sun is out and I don't want to know why when I go to the grocery store all the bread is gone, even the buns, the milk, and beer. Sounds like a very bad bread pudding to me...
