Got it in one, Mick -- I'd seen that one in the garden centres here, but couldn't remember what it was called (and couldn't find it on any of the websites here!)

Of course gardeners on our side of the pond have much more use for wall-mounted gardens...our gardens are smaller, and EVERYONE has a wall -- in the US, the gardens are enormous (a small one will be 100m2 or more), and no walls anywhere in an entire housing estate.

I saw a blog last year where an apartment complex had attached used gutters to the side of the building for growing greens and such.

I totally forgot about Josh's 2 Liter idea! I'm going to do it. Now I just have to find people to save their bottles for me. I might do some with the smaller soda bottles the my husband buys.

Gardening is one thing (among many of course) the French know how to do and do well. There is a movie over here called "It's Complicated" (see it if you have not yet done so) and Meryl Streep has a French Kitchen Garden that she cooks out of, there is one beautiful scene with the garden in it, it's absolutely lovely.
Here is a picture. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1936887296/tt1230414
I read somewhere that since the character owns a bakery her garden is a French Garden, and the set designer for this part of the movie is an accomplished gardener. In the movie, she literally moves the food from garden to table.

Believe it or not, Valerie, I'm the only person I know who has a vegetable garden. None of my neighbors has more than a tomato or two.

My dream is to have espalier'ed fruit garden. Can't wait to move and get some decent acreage, so that I can start there.

Dress up your pallet compost bin. Hmmm, wonder if this will pass some of the HOAs out there.
