Howdy From SE Georgia

Post  urbanveggies on 3/9/2011, 5:18 pm

Hi Folks!
What a pleasure to find this forum! I live in an urban environment and I am growing patches of veggies in a few gardens this year. This is my first go around, and I am all in so to speak. Thankfully there is an empty lot next to me, owned by a nice man from New Hampshire, who gardens here every summer. If all goes well we will have a delicious garden!
I got my seeds from Baker, and they are fantastic so far. I am currently sprouting Dwarf Blauswakker Peas, Purple Pod Bush Beans, Mini red bells, White wonder cukes, Tigger melons, and MATERS! Of the mater family I have four cherry types: Green Docs, Snowberry, Black cherries, and a yellow grape named something like Hsio Hsi Something something.
I live alone with my fantastic dog, an ABPT rescue named Duke.
Life is good if you grow it that way!

UrbanVeggies

We are so glad you found us. I hope you have read the book, ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING. It is such a great method to make your gardening easier and more productive.

This is a great bunch of people, who will be glad to help whenever you have questions :?: or provide support when things don't go exactly as you planned. Sad (Life happens)

Please keep us updated on the progress of your various patches.

Again, Welcome!

Hi Dixie and Furbalsmom!
Thanks for the welcome. I will be trying to post some pictures soon. I have not read the book, but I love the concept. I have a different book called small plot high yield which is good, I chose it over SF because it was only six bucks, and money is super tight. It does have a lot of good info, and I have found a wealth of info online too.
This forum will be the best thing to happen to my veg patch this year!

Welcome

Welcome to the forum, Urbanveggies.

You might check your library for a copy of the All New SFG. It really has a lot of information that is crucial to the growing method and is different from Mel's original book from the 1980s.

Keep us posted on how your gardens grow, and we'll be looking forward to those photos.
