I wish my Wal-mart had that. I searched 2 Wal-marts and no compost, but I will keep my eye open for it since they are just now getting all the gardening items in. Thanks for the name of it. Do you have a picture so I know what to look for. Thanks.

That's ok. I googled it and found the company website - http://www.greensmix.com/compost.html They don't distribute where I am according to the map on their website.

Just an FYI

If you are trying to find 5 types of compost to blend into your Mel's Mix, you are not really looking for a product that contains much Peat Moss.

When making Mel's Mix, you want 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 blended compost.

I am not saying the Greensmix is not a good product or idea, just be aware that you don't want your Mel's Mix to be too heavy in peat moss.

Another consideration is that a compost mix is going to have the largest volume of the cheapest product. The good, nutritional stuff that you're looking for could be in very small amounts. I hope it works out for you.

We were discussing in another thread that WM had chicken manure compost and mushroom compost for sale. It stated on the bags that the products were not to be used as a nutrition source; they were intended to be used as a 'soil amendment'. That gives you some perspective as to how much filler is used to keep a product's price low.

what types compost

Post  DeadwoodKaren on 3/20/2011, 10:59 pm

I have mushroom mix compost, chicken manure, humus, vegetable and flower soil, something else (I can not remember right now, and it's dark outside;we have things around here with sharp teeth, so I do not want to go out and look) I will be going out for more compost tomorrow, I am running out and only have 3 boxes (2x2, and 2.5x2.5) done;it's a lot of work, but worth it.

I live in the country and we do not have that much purchasable, packaged compost here. I did buy cotton hulls, and cotton meal, I did use some of the composted cotton hulls, hope that was OK.

This is my 1st attempt.
