My SFG Layout

Post  AZWoodWorker on 3/20/2010, 5:20 pm

Hi,

I'm new to gardending (and by extension, Square Foot Gardening), but I'm digging in with gusto. I've got a garden up and seed planted, and I'm waiting for the harvest with excitement. In order to keep things like planting dates, watering schedules and other notes straight, I created a spreadsheet that allows you to pick a crop and then it automatically fills in the information for the square. I thought others might be interested in using it, but I don't see a way to post a file; am I missing something?

I'm attaching a screen grab of what it looks like for reference.

my reccomendation would be to host it somewhere like rapidshare or megauploads and then post the link in the forums so that others can download it im pretty sure if its a small enough file that there is no charge for the hosting and if any one needs a walkthrough on how to download from these types of sites hit me up because i do alot of downloading from both of them.

File location

Post  AZWoodWorker on 3/20/2010, 6:41 pm

Good call.

I've placed the file at RapidShare. To get it, follow this link:

http://rapidshare.com/files/367829847/Garden_Layout.xls

Then, click on 'Free User' then click on 'Download'.

**UPDATED 3/24 with a new link to a corrected file; the previous file had an error with the formulas that I've corrected in this new file. I'm sincerely sorry about the inconvenience.**

error

Post  bonnie0128 on 3/21/2010, 4:49 pm

This looks like a great spreadsheet - but I got an error when I tried to access it:

This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times.
This limit is reached.
To download this file, the uploader either needs to transfer this file into his/her Collector's Account, or upload the file again. The file can later be moved to a Collector's Account. The uploader just needs to click the delete link of the file to get further information.

I believe I fixed it. Let me know if it's still not working.

I love spreadsheets! This looks really useful. I have one question though... what zone is this specific to?
Thanks!

Couple questions

Post  bonnie0128 on 3/21/2010, 8:20 pm

Got a chance to look around - nice job!

Question 1: What are the two dates? Indoor/outdoor planting?

Question 2: I thought zucchini were 1 plant per 2 squares (as per page 157 of SFG)?

Question 3: I thought cucumbers were 2 plants per 1 square (as per page 157 of SFG)?

Thanks for your feedback!

layout

Post  dixie on 3/22/2010, 1:04 pm

Thanks so much for this. I always intend to keep track of my garden, but never do.
In fact I just emailed Pense Nursery to see what kinds of blackberry plants I ordered last year because I want more of them.

Your spreadsheet should make it easier for me. Maybe at least I'll get started with it!

indoor planting is done for none cold hardy crops.
the important date is you last spring frost date you plug that in to week zero then calculate the rest of you dates based on that.

The two dates are indeed the indoor and outdoor planting dates. If you input the average date of the last frost into the worksheet named 'Plant List' inot cell B2, it will calculate the planting dates for you.

On #2 and 3, I believe I have that information loaded; let me know if that's not the case.

My garden is starting!

Post  AZWoodWorker on 3/23/2010, 1:01 pm

I'm pretty excited - my peas are beginning to poke out of the ground and my squash is too! I haven't been this excited about anything to do with dirt for a long time.

Duh - I missed the first page of the worksheet! But on the layout page, the zucchini and cucumber blocks have the wrong "per square foot" info (it is right on the plant list sheet).

Thanks again for a great tool!

Actually, it looks like some of the formulas are out of whack. When I add to the list, it really screws up the data. Is the OP still around to take a look or update the spreadsheet?

WB,

Yes, you're correct. There's an incorrect setting in each of the formulas; I'll fix it and reload the file this evening (I can't access it at work). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Us Northerners are intensely jealous of you Southerners right now. I had to scrape frost off the car windows this morning. We have a long way to go before when can put seed to soil - outside least ways.

CORRECTED FILE

Post  AZWoodWorker on 3/24/2010, 11:43 pm

All,

I sincerely apologize - the file I had originally posted had an error in the formulas. When you selected a plant to put in a box, it might or might not fill in the additional information correctly. I've corrected the formulas and provided a new link in the original post. Here's the link again:

Sorry about the inconvenience.
