Where to buy seedlings?

Post  Weatherkid on 3/14/2011, 2:21 pm

This is a question for everyone here in Maryland:

Where is the best place to buy seedlings? Last year we bought them from Wal-Mart, but I'm wondering whether anyone would recommend somewhere else.

Thanks,

Joel

I'm not from Maryland, but you could also try Home Depot and Lowes. I've had nothing but great seedlings from those two places. I've also heard that ACE Hardware stores sometimes have seedlings, but there are none in my area so I can't confirm that for me =)

If you're getting Bonnie brand, they are pretty hardy and can survive a trek, just pay attention to the soil in the containers when you look. Some places OVER water and the non plastic pots are already gone more or less, among other things!

Within about 3 blocks of each other I have Walmart, Lowe's and Home Dept so I check into all three quite often.

Walmart gets Bonnie seedlings, but so does Lowe's and Home Depot.
The only difference is that Lowe's and Home Depot charge a few cents more and sometimes, but not always, are often in better shape due to better care.

Our local nursery went out of business within a year of both Lowe's and Home Depot opening their stores here within months of each other so they are the only places to get seedlings within 20 miles.
