Mother Nature's Compost

Post  windrider1967 on 3/14/2011, 8:09 pm

I was wondering if, since my finances are so limited if it would be to my advantage to head out back into the swampy woods and collect some of nature's finest to add to my soil. Under the leaf layer there is a deep layer of very rich soil/compost. Would adding this into my sandy soil/manure mix be a good move or a bad one?

If your swampy woods is the same as my swampy woods, I would do it. It's real topsoil, and not the manufactured stuff they try to pass off as topsoil these days.

Cool - I was figuring that I was looking at some high quality "black gold" Now the only problem is how to transport - can't get car, truck or wheelbarrow back in there, so it may be a matter of buckets to the edge of the yard. It is definately worth the work likely tho.
