Red Worms

Red Worms

I am making 3 Worm Towers......love the idea..... couldnt find the 5 inch PVC pipe but a landscaping company had 6 inch......so a pot will have to fit a different direction on the top.......

My question is Why Red Worms...? Difference between regular soil worms?

from wikipedia: They thrive in rotting vegetation, compost, and manure;

They are widely sold by weight for use in vermiculture owing to their remarkable ability to process organic matter into fertile compost
Unlike earthworms, red wrigglers, scientifically known as Esenia fetida, actually live above the surface of the soil, feeding on the organic matter they nest in, such as heaps of old cow manure or piles of moist, dead leaves.

Tnx for the info.....will check it all out......Walmart here doesnt have them.....I have to go to a bait shop in Imperial Beach to get some......tnx agn....Ruth
