Inland Northwest

Post  ModernDayBetty on Fri Mar 25, 2011 1:53 pm

I have only seen one other person not on the coast in this forum and I was wondering how many people there are in Central or Eastern WA/OR, or Idaho... Our climates are very different, even between Eastern and Central but they are more similar than the other side of the mountains.

The head honcho of the forum is from Idaho. Have you met her yet? Sweet lady.

She was the only person I have seen from this side of the Cascades. :o) I've tried to connect online with more people from this side to talk about gardening online but no matter where I go almost everyone is from the west side. I've lived all over Washington and I have some East side pride, we need more drought tolerant people in this forum :o)

Last year I got to do a bunch of the research for the different "areas". Eastern Washington is included in the massive Western Mountains and High Plains Reagon (that should be region… I always make that mistake) You might want to check out that area for gardens closer in season to your own. My Father-in-law grew tomatoes east of Yakima in Prosser. I loved it there and yes, it is very different. Either way, Welcome!

This makes me laugh!! We aren't all raging republicans haha! I am a bit of an outcast over here but some of us recycle, don't use pesticides, and speak too loudly about are differing political views. lol.

Hugs! I know you did that just for me Smile Golly I hope you post a whole lot. I am one of the rare wet siders that is not leaning left (nor am I a republican). In fact I would just as soon go to a strawberry festival as a political rally (and will proudly put the signage in my garden).

Welcome to the forum kraz. You're not really alone over there. I can think of a half dozen members in your area. They just don't talk much! Maybe if you start talking a lot about being on the dry side, they'll pop their heads out from under their covered wagons to say hey.

I also wanted to let everybody out side the area know that this thread was not in danger of going political. WA and Or are divided by the Cascade Mtns. The west sides of the states are wet and pretty blue. The east sides of the states are dry and pretty red. Everyone out here is aware of that generalization and has fun with it. There have been several efforts, though short lived, to re-divide WA and Or. Western WA and OR would become a state, and eastern WA and OR would become a state. That arrangement would probably serve everyone better, but I don't see it happening.

HI!!! I saw this thread the other day and wrote a reminder to respond to it!!

I live in Post Falls Idaho...and we are kinda short on members in this Eastern Washington Northern Idaho area.

So happy to have you!

I wish I could say I have been at this about 20 years and have all sorts of advice...but this will just be my 2nd year!!! So I guess we have to learn together about our region and what works best.

Can't wait to interact on the forum about our area specific SFG'ing!

Dirty Girl in Eastern WA.

Post  tracyjayne on Tue Mar 29, 2011 4:22 pm

Hi guys.... I am here in lonely ole Lind... You know home of the combine derby... LOL! I am glad there are a few of us here. This is my first year with the SFG. I have my boxes made and just got them filled with soil. I am getting so excited. I love being dirty. I wish spring would really get here. It is raining today with minutes of sun. And Wind....UGH... Come on Mr. Sunshine, bring on the warmth.
