Need peat moss (bad person??)

Post  Homew6kids on 3/25/2011, 11:39 pm

So, I've been looking on the internet for peat moss and vermiculite in my area. I knew that there was a bias against peat moss, but I was unaware of the ferocity of it! I'm a bad guy just for asking about peat moss! So, should I keep looking, or is it better to just substitute with something that won't get me arrested, like coir. I just wanna garden!!

there are renewable peats out there, or you can use coir.

It's all up to choice and budget.

Moss

Post  westie42 on 3/26/2011, 4:11 am

Home Depot and Lowes here both sell the 3.8cft bags of peat moss in their garden centers. Wouldn't there be a half dozen or more stores in San Antonio you could check with. They don't do very big bags of vermiculite but there is supposed to be a database of vermiculite sources somewhere in this forum. A big greenhouse or plant grower mite lead you onto a source for either. Coir don't know what that is could you post a picture of it. LOL. is it something usually burned in a b---.

coir is coconut fiber -- hairy and brown, just chopped so the pieces are shorter.
