Hello from Park Ridge, IL!

Post  MorningGlory52 on 4/3/2011, 12:38 pm

I'm excited to begin SFG this year.... Have been landscaping my house for past three years. I read about SFG 2 years ago but had too much else to establish to dive right in. But that's OK, because now there's even more information and more tools to help.... including this wonderful forum. I look forward to sharing information with other gardeners here. I have (4) 2x4 boxes for veggies and fruit (tomatoes, peppers, sugar snap peas, onions, garlic, radishes, strawberries, among others) and various herbs... and (2) 2 x4 boxes for flowers. We will use them in our small backyard next to the garage. It is on the north side of the house but location gets full sun. My husband made the boxes for me and we are both excited and looking forward to this learning experience!

I want to welcome you aboard. Any question is worth asking here. And, pictures are worth more than 1000 words. Hope to see you around frequently.

I would go into more detail, but the wife wants me to hang ceiling fans this afternoon. You will find everyone here is incredibly nice and willing to help.

Great to have you.

Very nice to have you join us. You read about SFG two years ago? Did you happen to read the ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING book? It has the best information to get your SFG set up right the first time.

Glad you were able to find a location with full sun. Location is one of the keys to successful gardening.

We look forward to hearing how your garden progresses, and just in case you did not notice, we love pictures.

Again, Welcome

Hi there! I'm just southwest of you on the other side of O'Hare. This will be my 2nd year with my SFG. I had good success last year and I'm looking forward to more home grown veggies. Nice to meet someone nearby!

Yes, I have the newest book... thanks for your interest. I will upload pictures as things progress. The last of my compost for Mels Mix should be here any day... I bought 3 kinds of beautiful lettuce seedlings today, and radish, snap pea and raddichio seeds.... So I should be able to actually plant some things this weekend cheers

Then you haven't seen us when we are in the garden together... I would describe the scene as me saying, "So, we can to this and this and this and maybe this." She says sarcastically, "No, YOU can....here's the pitchfork." I put that look on my face as my balloon deflates. It suddenly dawns on her that she is stuck with me the rest of her life and puts that look on hers. Wink

Come by the regional forum sometime soon and tell us what you are doing for April. We would love to know your plans and/or questions.

And, we talk a little baseball from time to time to stave off boredom while we have nothing better to do in the SFG system but wait for veggies to grow...

http://squarefoot.creatingforum.com/t6169-baseball-standings#54168

Hope to chat soon.

Well hello there! Good to have ya.

Sounds like you are really excited. That is excellent! +1 on wanting to see pictures. Please don't hesitate to share whatever information you have. We are all here because we want to learn more about SFG/gardening and because we want to commune with like-minded folks. Also, ask any and every question you might have. There is always someone around here who is willing to help.

I hope you are enjoying the forums thus far.

Take care and happy gardening!

This is only my 2nd year so it's not like I'm an expert or anything, but I sure did have fun last year & I learned a ton. We're planning to move this summer (local move), so I'm doing mostly early stuff. Lots of broccoli, some peas, spinach. I may do a couple summer squash and see what I can get out of them before the move, just because they were so productive last year and we enjoyed them so much. I'm crazy enough that I'm doing a few tomatoes in containers & I'm going to attempt to move them!
