Hello from Helena Montana

Welcome from South Dakota! Supposed to be in the low 50's for the next few days. Much of our snow is gone, but still some lingering mountains of snirt (snow+dirt) and a round of rain/snow/ice supposedly coming by the weekend. Our winter is not quite over yet either! Very Happy BUT, seedlings are started indoors and give a hope of spring! Whatcha got planned for the garden? We love pics, even if they are of the little starter pots in a window!

Thanks for the welcome.
Winter blew in about 5am horizontal rain and snow.
Once I figure out how to post photos I will post some. Looks like I need to set up a third party photo album.
We have three raised beds plan on putting in two more this spring.

Hello from Helena Montana

Post  Goosegirl on 4/5/2011, 9:54 am

I am converting my Lasagna beds into SFG beds this year, so none of my boxes are actually set up yet. I have the wood, screws, and attitude, but not the weather yet! I have no garage so I have to have decent weather outdoors for the building of boxes - unless I can convince Hubby to let me build some of the smaller ones in the dining room!

Welcome Melvin! I know what you mean about winter not being over yet. I am in central British Columbia and we woke up to a couple of inches of fresh white snow this morning. SIGH! Oh well...at least we don't have cobras or baby crocodiles in the house like Walshevak's family in the Philippines! This will melt fairly quickly. Hopefully you can post pics soon. Go to the opening page for the forum and look under "how to do things on the forum" There are some pretty good instructions on there about how to post pics in your posts. If I can figure it out, anyone can. LOL! We would love to see them.

Again, welcome to the forum and best of luck with your garden.

Welcome, Melvin! Glad to have you aboard. We've been lucky to have visited Montana a couple of times in the past three years (though I was raised just over the border in Idaho, my nearest/dearest had not experienced The Big Sky). Looking forward to hearing how your garden progresses, what kinds of veggies you choose, how they do. My folks gardened (in Idaho) at a mile high, but grew wonderful things. Bet you do, too. Helena is so beautiful!

I have done some looking at posting photos with out much luck.

They can only be 200kb which means I would have to down size every picture that I own. LOL

Will see if this works.

WOW

Those are gorgeous. Do you have rebar secured in the walls for attaching your hoops? The beds look like they are 4 X 12's.
Really nice job. Hope things warm up so you can get some plants and seeds out there soon.

Thanks so much for sharing your photos.

Those are some serious hoops. You are ready for a hurricane. I know you don't have them there, but still, I am sure you get severe winds.

Thanks for the explaination, I have friends that work with concrete, but no one has made raised beds like that.

Holy Hoop Houses Melvin! You are ready for hurricanes, tornadoes or tsunamis. Those beds are AMAZING. Depending what you use on the top you could almost use them for bomb shelters.

I'm a little late to the party here, but I wanted to say Welcome Aboard, Matey!

The people here are very eager to help. I'm sure they are telling you that pictures really help, too. Stop by and familiarize yourself with your regional forum when you get settled in. There can be some real treats in there as far as localized information goes. And, when you get geared up, locals will have the same successes and issues at closer to the same times.

It's great to have you here from Big Sky Country. Hope to see you around.
